Crewe Alexandra midfielder Matus Holicek has called on the Railwaymen to return to winning ways when Shrewsbury Town visit Mornflake Stadium on Saturday at 3pm.
The 21-year-old homegrown midfielder acknowledged that Crewe's unbeaten start to the League Two season — six games without defeat — is pleasing. However, he stressed that four consecutive draws cannot sustain a promotion challenge.
"It's nice to be unbeaten, but I don't think drawing too many games will get you far in this league," Holicek said. "We really need to win this game on Saturday to make it even a better start. It's really important we win and perform well at home and give our fans what they want to see."
Holicek's Versatility
Holicek, who has made more than 120 appearances for the club, has recently been deployed in a deeper midfield position. He said he is content with the tactical shift and sees it as a sign of the manager's trust.
"I'm happy as long as I'm playing," he added. "I played everywhere across the midfield when I was younger, so there's not much difference. When I'm playing deep, I don't attack as much, but that's part of the game. I don't mind it personally — it just shows the Manager trusts me."
Holicek expressed the squad's ambition: "We're all on the same wavelength. We want to do well and hopefully get promoted this season."
