People who live, work or travel through Crewe are being invited to comment on proposals to improve the A500 corridor and connections to Crewe Railway Station.

Cheshire East Council will run a six-week public engagement period from Thursday 10 September until Thursday 22 October 2026.

The proposals are intended to make journeys safer and easier for people walking, wheeling, cycling and driving, while improving links between the A500, the railway station and the wider town.

Where to see the proposals in Crewe

Two public engagement events will be held during September:

  • Friday 11 September, 10am to 6pm: Crewe Railway Station, Nantwich Road entrance foyer, Nantwich Road, Crewe, CW2 6HR.
  • Thursday 17 September, 11am to 3pm: Crewe Market Hall stage area, 27 Earl Street, Crewe, CW1 2BL.

Residents can also view the proposals and complete the council's online A500 feedback survey from 10 September.

Plans aim to improve connections

The council said the scheme would support future growth and encourage more sustainable travel in Crewe. Feedback from the events and online form will be used to identify local priorities and inform the continuing development of the proposals.

Councillor Mark Goldsmith, Cheshire East Council's cabinet member for highways and transport, encouraged people to examine the proposals and take part.

“Whether you live, work or travel through the area, your feedback is really valuable and will help shape our proposed plans.”

He said the corridor provides important links between Crewe Railway Station, the M6 and routes towards the A50 and East Midlands, while forming part of the council's wider Greater Crewe plans.

“Crewe's excellent connectivity remains one of its greatest strengths, and ensuring that the station, town centre and surrounding areas work together will be vital for unlocking its future growth and potential.”

Scheme remains subject to government funding review

Progression of the A500 scheme is not yet guaranteed. It remains subject to the outcome of a government funding review and confirmation that it will continue within the Department for Transport's Major Road Network programme.

Cheshire East Council said a decision on the programme was expected in late summer 2026.

The engagement closes on Thursday 22 October 2026.
