Cheshire East Council has appointed Paul Walker as its interim chief executive. He will join the authority on Monday 19 October.
Walker has previously served as chief executive of Herefordshire Council and held senior local government roles at Blackpool, Copeland, Rossendale and Harrow, according to the council’s announcement.
Council leader Nick Mannion welcomed the appointment and said Walker would help maintain the pace of improvement before a permanent chief executive was appointed.
Mannion also thanked Helen Charlesworth-May for covering the chief executive’s duties alongside her role as executive director of adults, health and integration.
Deputy leader Michael Gorman said Walker brought experience in transformation, improvement and regeneration.
Walker said he looked forward to working with councillors, staff, partners, businesses and communities.
Recruitment for a permanent chief executive is underway. The council expects the successful candidate to start around spring 2027. The latest appointment is interim, not the conclusion of that permanent recruitment.
