Residents can get free advice on reducing the risk of falls at a series of drop-in events in Crewe and across Cheshire East.
The sessions are being held during Falls Prevention Awareness Week and will bring together health and care organisations offering practical guidance on strength, balance and staying independent.
Cheshire East Council and its partners estimate that around 24,000 falls occur among people aged 65 and over in the borough each year, with that figure projected to rise to about 29,000 as the population ages.
When and where are the free events?
- Monday 21 September, 10am to noon: Crewe Lifestyle Centre
- Tuesday 22 September, 2pm to 3pm: Middlewich Methodist Church
- Wednesday 23 September, 2pm to 3pm: Handforth Youth Centre
- Thursday 24 September, 11am to 1pm: Holmes Chapel Community Centre
The events are free, no booking is required, and refreshments and goody bags will be available.
Visitors will be able to speak to professionals about bone health, nutrition and hydration, physical activity, foot care, blood-pressure checks and making the home safer. Advice will also cover how to get up safely after a fall.
Councillor Jill Rhodes, Cheshire East Council's chair of adults and health committee, said: “A fall can have a lasting impact on someone's confidence and independence, but there are simple steps we can all take to reduce the risk.”
She encouraged older residents, family members and carers to attend a session and learn about local support.
The programme is being led by One You Cheshire East with Cheshire East Council, Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, East Cheshire NHS Trust, Steady On Your Feet and Everybody Health and Leisure.
