Crewe Alexandra manager Lee Bell has confirmed the club will not make any new signings before Saturday's Carabao Cup first round match against Accrington Stanley at Mornflake Stadium (3pm kick-off).
Bell intends to bring in loan players before the transfer window closes but does not expect any arrivals in time for the weekend fixture. He said: "We are trying our best. We're trying to get players in on loan. We've made contact this week. But we've heard nothing back, and that's where we are at the minute. As we stand today, we're no further down the line with anybody else coming in."
Squad condition ahead of opener
Despite the absence of new faces, Bell expressed satisfaction with his squad's preparation. He noted that one or two players are carrying minor injuries from pre-season but overall the players are fit and ready for competitive action. "We are pleased with how pre-season has gone," Bell said. "The players look fit and champing at the bit to go. Overall, it's pretty satisfying."
