Crewe Alexandra FC has received approval from the Independent Football Regulator to adopt a retro club crest during the 2027/28 season as part of celebrations marking 150 years since the club's first competitive game in December 1877.
The retro badge features a lion holding a railway wheel, resting on a football encircled by the club's name. More than 90% of supporters voted in favour of the temporary return across three separate ballots.
How supporters voted
Supporters were consulted via an in-person vote at the turnstiles before the Stoke City friendly on 18 July, and email surveys for season ticket holders and Railwaymen Supporters' Society members. At least 60% support was required in each of the three ballots for the change to proceed.
Chairman Charles Grant said the club was pleased that the Independent Football Regulator had commended the supporter engagement throughout the process.
"We are delighted to have received approval to make the change our supporters clearly want to see in our 150th year," Grant said. "It was important to us that our fans made this decision, so it is particularly pleasing that the IFR has commended our supporter engagement throughout the process."
150th anniversary celebrations
The retro badge will form part of a wider programme of celebrations during the 2027/28 campaign.
