Parents, carers, young people and residents are being asked for their views on proposed changes to home-to-school travel assistance across Cheshire East.
The public consultation opens on Friday 16 October and runs until Friday 4 December 2026.
It forms part of a review of the council’s Compulsory School Age Travel Policy, which sets out when eligible children and young people can receive help travelling between home and school.
Proposals have not been finalised
The council says the review reflects updated national guidance and road-safety assessments. Proposals include changes concerning discretionary support for younger children and the way travel distances are measured.
Cabinet considered the policy on 8 October and agreed to seek public views on proposed changes before final decisions are made.
Councillor Laura Crane, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “We know how important travel arrangements are for families, and we want to hear directly from those who may be affected by these proposals.”
She said feedback about families’ experiences would help the council take a balanced approach.
Responses will inform final recommendations before changes are implemented. Families in Crewe and elsewhere in Cheshire East can find the consultation through the council’s consultations page, linked below.
